Caesar was oblivious to her feelings as he continued to stroke his chin in contemplation, "do the trolls have heightened senses, similar to the fox-kin?" Caesar asked while tilting his head in Akari's direction.
Hearing his question, Akari recollected herself, straightened her clothes, and answered after a brief moment of thought, "their hearing and sight capabilities are comparable to humans. However, their physical strength and sense of smell are even better than ours," Akari replied.
"Excellent… do you perhaps have any perfume on you?" Caesar asked strangely, although he knew his question was quite abnormal, there was nothing to lose for asking.
Akari stared dumbfounded at Caesar before breaking out in a laugh while holding her stomach, the women behind her also wanted to laugh; however, they didn't dare to. As such, they bit their cheeks as not to burst out rudely.
"W-who would bring perfume to battle?" Akari asked after catching her breath. She couldn't help but feel rather funny. She wouldn't have usually burst out laughing as she did, but he asked with such a straight face, making her unable to contain her laughter.
"Hmph, you have no idea how many people die due to uncleanliness — sickness, infestation, disease. Not preparing yourself could lead to the innumerable amount of problems," Caesar replied with a snort and took out a perfume bottle from his storage ring. He always kept extra for Renee in case she ever needed any.
Such a sight caused the eyes of the women nearby to nearly pop out of their skull and look at Caesar in a new light. They were all curious as to why Caesar would keep women's perfume with him, but none of them dared to ask. Therefore, they were left to their vivid imaginations.
"Alright, alright, enough playing around… put this on and wait here in the middle of the forest. Take around four or five of your troops to wait with you" Caesar cleared his throat, and the distracted army slowly got ahold of themselves.
Without waiting for Akari's reply, he sprayed her and the five women behind her with the perfume in his hands. He then proceeded to cross his arms and command the others, "as for the rest of you, get in the trees and conceal your presence… these six will be the bait!" Caesar roared shamelessly and hopped into the nearest tree. He had no qualms about making the few girls in front of him bait, especially since he knew how strong Akari actually was.
Akari and her five friends smiled ruefully while staring at Caesar's departing figure. They understood what his plan was within a few seconds, but no one would feel good when they were used as bait. However, after seeing Caesar's reassuring smile, they breathed out a sigh of relief.
The rest of the soldiers smiled wryly and followed Caesar's lead; they climbed up the huge trees and concealed themselves. Although they were an army of around 400, they only used up around 16 trees. 25 people in each one.
As they completed this, Akari and the five others just stood in the middle of the forest awkwardly. Caesar didn't order them to do anything in particular, so they just simply bantered with each other to ease their nerves.
They waited like this for one hour… two hours… three hours… finally, the sun went down, and the stars came out, but there was still no sight of the trolls. Most of the soldiers started getting restless, while others got tired and slacked off; however, Caesar's threatening gaze caused them to wake back up.
Caesar maintained a calm and patient expression on his face the entire time. He knew that even if the trolls had a superior sense of smell and chased after Renee, it would take a while to pinpoint their location. The forest was gigantic, after all.
And like this, they waited for another hour, until finally, they could overhear a few loud voices from a distance. They sounded sinister, and the fox-kin couldn't quite hear them. However, Caesar was fully capable of understanding their words.
"P-Prince, are you sure this is smart? This could potentially be a trap set by the enemy… why else would they use perfume?" an elders voice entered into Caesar's ears. His words were reasonable, but the young and arrogant voice that replied to him seemed to not care in the slightest.
"Shut your trap, old man. They are women. It's normal for them to use different kinds of scents to allure men. Besides, even if it was a trap, do you think those weaklings are capable of defeating my royal guard?" the young prince scoffed in disdain and quickened his pace.
"Y-your Highness…" the older man spoke with a hint of unwillingness and dread. Both of them, followed by the one hundred durable royal guards, slowly approached Akari and the five others. The troll prince could faintly make an outline of the six, and he nearly broke out into a jog.
Finally, the army hidden within the trees laid sights on the troll prince. He had an abnormal green hue to his skin, his tusks were twice as large as the other trolls, and his hair was bright orange. He had small eyes, a pointy chin, an aquiline nose, and little freckles on his cheeks. He was overall quite ugly and a woman's common enemy.
"Y-you… I haven't seen you since that day…" The troll prince opened up first once he was a few meters away. He was out of breath, and a strange blush appeared on his face. Not at all suited for his wicked personality.
Akari found it hard to hide the disgust she felt for the 'thing' in front of her, but she still maintained a calm expression, "I don't seem to remember you, though?" she replied, trying to mimic Renee's voice as closely as possible.
Her words visibly shocked the prince, his smile nearly froze, and the corner of his lips twitched, "you don't remember how you disgraced me in front of my clan? I've dreamt of that day every night, and now, I can finally get my revenge…" the troll prince seemed to be on the brink of insanity as he slowly approached.
"Hehe, oh how I've dreamt of this day… ever since that clan meeting, I promised myself that I'd get a hold of you. The only one who still dared to act arrogantly in front of me!" he blabbered incoherently and broke into a sprint.
He was so engaged with his story that he didn't even notice that the woman in front of him didn't share the same hair, nor eye color as Renee. As for the royal guards behind him, they had never even seen Renee before, so they had no clue.
The old man, on the other hand, looked around his surroundings in both fear and shock, and soon, his gaze landed on Caesar. Dread seemed to overtake the old man's body as he dropped to his knees, "ah you foolish prince… you will be the death of us all," he whispered hatefully, to which the guards behind him tilted their head in confusion.
Caesar halted the many troops from moving with a simple hand gesture and continued to wait. He used his eyes to continuously intimidate the older man who had caught sight of him and waited for the perfect moment.
While he was waiting, the troll prince reached just a few steps away from Akari, and suddenly, a katana stabbed towards him. Akari could no longer stand it anymore and attacked with everything she had. The wind seemed to coil around her blade as it pierced towards the detestable troll prince.
"Die you bastard!" she roared. But unfortunately, her blade was easily parried by the prince's ax. He may be a perverted idiot, but he was by no means weak. That is why many trolls still respected him.
"Haha, I love feisty women… GUARDS, ATTACK!" The troll prince roared crazily, and his entire royal guard marched forward in response. He didn't hesitate to utilize his entire force to capture one woman.
Caesar, who was in the trees, used another hand signal and started channeling his mana, creating a few dozen arrows of ice. The others followed in suit, and a few hundred fireballs, on top of a few dozen ice arrows, slowly formed at the top of the trees.
The bright light, on top of the substantial mana fluctuations, caused the prince, and royal guards to look up. However, it was far too late. Caesar licked his lips as he disdainfully peered down at the troll prince.
"FIRE!" he ordered curtly, and a rain of fire and ice descended upon the trolls. Caesar wasn't scared of causing a forest fire, as he would simply use his ice to stop it.
"D-D-Defend!" the troll prince roared fearfully, but as they were a race that relied heavily o
n physical strength and not mana, they had no defenses to offer. They raised their weapons and shields, but it was hard enough.
Crash! The huge amount of fire and ice collided with the unprepared trolls and blasted them away in one fell swoop. Fortunately, Akari's army made sure not to aim at the troll prince, leaving him, her, and her five aides still alive.
"Fire another volley! Make sure there are no survivors!" Caesar ordered once more and hopped off the tree, landing just a few meters away from the troll prince. The silver crown atop his head glistening within the night.
"I have dealt with an arrogant prince before… I wonder if you will scream as he did?" Caesar said sarcastically and approached the troll.
The dumbfounded troll prince recollected himself and looked towards Caesar, and soon, a crazy smiled appeared on his lips, "heh, If I manage to take you, hostage, I can get out of here" he said while breaking out in a charge at Caesar.
Caesar, who remained composed, smiled, "I once read about an interesting torture technique," He whispered strangely, and a colossal amount of killing intent erupted from his body. Enough to make all of those present shiver uncontrollably.
CHAPTER FOURTY-THREE
The troll prince didn't understand anything of what Caesar was saying, so he just continued mindlessly charging in his direction. He swung his ax horizontally and couldn't help but smile with disdain while looking at Caesar. He felt as though the man in front of him was all bark and no bite.
The ax wafted up a strong wind as it swung towards Caesar, fluttering his clothes and long hair. However, Caesar's expression didn't contort in the slightest. Instead, his eyes squinted as he reached for his belt and pulled out an inconspicuous dagger.
Using his past experience when training with Musashi, he coated the blade in his abundant mana and easily deflected the troll princes ax, sending him back a few inches from the sheer force. He then proceeded to take a step forward, and before the troll could even react, he kicked him in the knee.
Crack! A loud cracking sound resounded throughout the forest, and a scream sounded soon after. The obnoxious wailing nearly blew out Caesar's eardrums before he kicked the troll prince in the abdomen and shut him up.
Caesar, by no means, held anything back. The troll prince arced through the air and hit a thick tree stump. His mouth started foaming, and his eyes rolled back, effectively entering into an unconscious state.
Once that was complete, Caesar used his ice magic to dowse the nearby flames. He didn't want to start a forest fire after all. His calm and composed figure shocked the nearby soldiers, and they couldn't help but admire him even more. He took out the troll prince with a small dagger, within seconds at that.
To Caesar, however, this was not a shocking feat. The troll prince's strength was roughly on par with a clan head, let alone being his equal, who defeated 13 clan heads at once. As such, this outcome had been long expected by Caesar.
The only two that Caesar fretted about was the troll king and the mysterious helper behind him. Musashi had once stated that the troll king was on par with himself, causing Caesar to dread him. Caesar knew better than anyone how strong Musashi truly was.
Thinking to here, Caesar raised his head and inspected the heavily breathing Akari. She was still shocked by the outcome and didn't expect Caesar to come and help her. Apprehension, fear, happiness, and even embarrassment flashed across her face before she finally bowed, "thank you!" she shouted, garnering the attention of all those present.
"There is no need for your thanks, saving citizens, warriors, and allies is the duty of a king. Being praised for merely completing my job is quite distasteful," Caesar replied humbly and gestured to the many burnt and injured trolls.
"Thank yourselves for accomplishing such a feat… this would not have been possible without your guys' assistance. Unfortunately, our task is not yet complete. We must first confirm the kills before celebrating" Caesar praised the soldiers and started to cut the fallen trolls at the neck.
Caesar was not someone who condoned doing things sloppily; as such, any survivors would be unacceptable. Following his lead, the many women and men started to check each and every charred body on the ground. Some squirmed when pierced, others screamed, but they made sure none of them would be capable of opening their eyes once again.
Since the trolls were very disrespectful to all races of women alike, they held a special hatred for them. This caused the many women to relish in the feeling of killing the trolls. To them, it felt as though the hunted finally became the hunters.
Caesar didn't pay this much mind; in fact, this was one of the main reasons he brought the women along. If there was anything he had learned in his long and grand life, it was that hell hath no fury, like a woman's scorn.
Once this was done, Caesar clapped his hands and gathered everyone. The crown atop his head seemed to glisten even brighter than usual. Unfortunately, his current attire didn't match the crown. Thus, he looked somewhat goofy from the neck down.
As if he didn't know how laughable his current appearance was, he gave strict orders, "Akari, I want you to lead your troops to point A, inform them that I'll be there tomorrow at dusk" Caesar ordered.
"Where will you be going?" Akari nodded in consent and asked.
"I'll be putting my plans into motion, you'll see soon… also, send one of your most trusted soldiers to point B and inform them to stay put until I arrive," Caesar ordered and walked towards the currently unconscious troll prince.
Akari looked at Caesar's departing back and nodded solemnly. She then ordered her men to pack up their things and leave. According to her knowledge and memory, point A was simply three hundred meters west of the troll stronghold. It was a large lake where some dangerous monsters lurked, as such, no clans or hunting groups treaded there.
As for point B, Akari tapped her chin while trying to relocate her memory. She remembered that Caesar briefed them of a location somewhat close to the troll stronghold. It was somewhere that the kobolds once mined, a large cavern only about 80 meters away from the troll's northern gate.
Thinking to here, Akari explained to her best friend, and right-hand man, where Point B was located, and then set off. Leaving Caesar alone with the troll prince.
Caesar broke off two long and sharp pieces of wood from a nearby tree and approached the troll prince. They looked similar to wooden stakes. He stripped the strange clothes that the troll adorned and laid his bare body on the ground.
He made sure the trolls belly was on the ground as Caesar took out one of his small daggers and slightly slit him open at the rectum. He then used a paste he had taken from Musashi to stop the bleeding and then proceeded to do the same thing to the unconscious old man that had spotted him at the beginning.
Fortunately, both of them didn't awake, and he heaved them over his shoulders and rushed towards the troll stronghold at his quickest speeds. He made sure to occasionally check the two scum on his shoulder, and after a few hours, the massive gates finally appeared in his line of sight.
He threw the troll prince and old troll to the ground and grabbed both of his wooden stakes, he once again put the troll prince on his belly and slid the wooden stake through the man's behind and central mass. It followed down the spine, and he was careful as not to puncture a vital organ.
The abrupt pain immediately awoke the troll prince, and he wailed like a dying dog… his sobs echoed throughout the area and even scared the trolls guarding the walls. Fortunately, it was quite dark out, and Caesar's figure could not be seen.
Caesar then planted the impaled troll prince into the ground and repeated his actions with the elder troll. Both of them sobbed wildly, but each time they moved, the stake would impale deeper.
This was a torture method invented in the early middle ages back in Caesar's past life. It was used by the famed Vlad the Impaler in eastern Europe, which made those in a few thousand-mile radii fear him. Caesar was a man who deemed that those who didn't study history were like those without eyes or ea
rs. As such, he remembered this famous story from his past life.
After executing the torture method with perfection, Caesar smiled widely and left a little note on top of the troll prince. He then chuckled and left both of them. He felt it was quite ironic that the troll prince who indulged in raping innocent women ended up dying similarly.
Dying in such a way would undoubtedly enrage the troll king, not to mention his dignity. It was akin to a huge slap onto the troll king's face. Even Caesar was curious as to what he would do when he saw his son outside the gates, impaled up the rectum.
When recalling the words, he left on his note, Caesar's smiled grew as he quickened his pace. The first step to his plan was complete, and now he just needed the troll king to dance atop his palm.
CHAPTER FOURTY-FOUR
. The next morning, Caesar was still leisurely jogging through the misty and cold forest. He was in no rush to reach the large lake, where nearly half of his army should be located. He hoped that Akari had already reached the lake and told the others of their endeavor to raise the troops' morale a tad bit further.
